August 2015 Newsletter

Financials: Monthly Revenue Required: $ 7,100.00 and Monthly Revenue Received: $4,196.00 Remaining Need: $ 2,904.00

Current ministry/ ranch projects: We had a wonderful family of five from Utah out to serve at Mountain Haven in August. They did a lot of outdoor improvements like painting decks, hanging fences and signs and giving the Mountain Haven property a boost it needed. Plus they were extremely fun and generous. Thank you.

Something Interesting or unexpected that happened last month: 1.) We had a group of 14 out here that our son and daughter in law brought out for rest, fun, laughter and vacation. It was seriously life-giving to be surrounded by so many young people. 2.) Chris did her first overnight high country solo backpacking trip. She sought solace and beauty in the Collegiate Peaks and it was truly wonderful. She also managed to climb Pikes Peak with her lifelong best friend Jermaine.

Top Praise of the Month: We see Mountain Haven almost completed, it is amazing to see how many hands have created this Haven. We are blessed to be living in this pristine place. We have had so many guests out here to pray and speak life into us over the very busy summer.

Top Prayer Requests: Freedom from pornography and affairs for many couples. Shame to be lifted off of God’s people. It is rampant and it is paralyzing.

Looking Ahead: We have a new counselor on board, Jocelyn Chisholm, she is ready to take your referrals. She is seeing teens, and women and is doing a Codependent No More Group in a few weeks. We are also offering two other women’s groups. Flyers were sent in a previous distribution. Join one if you can and read about Jocelyn below as she shares here heart.

Mountain Haven Newsletter- August 2015

“Mountain Haven Expands to include… Jocelyn Chisholm”

I met her almost 7 years ago through a “chance” meeting where I was told she did hair. I went to her house to have my hair done (best hair experience ever), and we immediately clicked, which is not common for me. She was real about her story and shared openly with me about her experiences. She was not full of spiritual platitudes or assurances and seemed to understand the human struggle for meaning, purpose and depth. I developed a lasting and enduring friendship with her from that “chance” encounter. Jocelyn is the type of friend that puts you at ease.

Empathy oozes from her (and not in sticky, insincere way), in fact, I think her blood may actually have empathy running in it. We are really very opposite in many ways, but one way we are the same is our desire to break down the stronghold of religion and religious shaming and invite people into a one- of a kind relationship with Jesus where they truly are loved by God and in return love Him and love others, AS they love themselves.

We are so excited to welcome Jocelyn to the team at Mountain Haven. Once you meet her, you won’t forget her. Take time to hear from her below as she shares a little bit of her story, her heart for people and her availability. You will understand why Jocelyn is such a perfect fit for Mountain Haven and our vision of “imparting hope” to all people.

Hello to all of you Mountain Haven supporters! As you know my name is Jocelyn Chisholm. I’ve been married to my husband Steve for twenty-three years as of August 29. Our five amazing kiddos- Michaela 22, Elijah 20, Luke 16, Ethan 15, and Jared 13 keep us incredibly busy, challenged, and amply entertained! Being outnumbered by boys in my house has forced me to expand my entertainment horizons to include super hero movies and lots of sports. I still secretly love my chic flicks, however, so I sneak one in from time to time. As a family we enjoy hiking, biking, boating, and skiing when we get the chance.

I’ve been foremost a mom for the last twenty-two years but am a licensed cosmetologist and have always done that on the side. What moved me to get into counseling was a combination of my love for people and the help that I’ve received on my own healing journey. My father was an alcoholic growing up (he has been sober and recovering for twenty-three years now-praise God!) and my mother struggled with prescription drug addiction and mental health issues. I am a sexual and spiritual abuse survivor.

As a young teen I was spiritually and sexually abused by my pastor. Additionally, my husband struggled with a porn addiction for the first twelve years of our marriage and I struggled with codependency. So, as you can imagine, I’ve had a LOT of experience with counseling and healing methods. I’ve spent years attending and leading group recovery programs. I’ve also done EMDR, Restoring the Foundations, and traditional one on one counseling. Once I discovered that help and healing were attainable, I couldn’t get enough.

As a result of all of this the Lord has put a passion in me to help others and share the hope that I was given. Don’t get me wrong, my life still isn’t perfect, but what I’ve learned is that healing is worth the work that I will gladly be doing and sharing the rest of my life. My heart is for sexual abuse survivors, women whose husbands are struggling with porn/ sex addiction, struggling teens, codependency issues, spiritual abuse issues, and people who are just plain hurting.

I will be offering a Codependent No More group starting September 14 from 5:00-6:30 pm running 10 weeks. The total cost for the group will be $150 broken down to $15 per week. If you or someone you know struggles with: controlling behaviors, being easily controlled, an inability to have boundaries or advocate for themselves this would be a great group to be a part of. This group is also great for anyone who lives with or is in relationship with an addict.

I am also offering individual therapy/coaching on Mondays from 8:00-4:00, as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:00-12:00. You can contact me at 1-719-429-1139 or for scheduling or questions..

I will be working with Mountain Haven which is a donation based ministry. I am stepping out in faith with Chris and Kevin and their incredible vision and passion for imparting hope for the broken and hurting. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store and am so grateful to Him that He “works all things together for good to those who are called according to His purpose” How comforting to know that He gives “beauty for ashes and strength for tears” and that our pain and suffering never goes to waste.
