If you want to change your life than its more than likely you will need to surrender. The word surrender literally means “To cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority”. Often the enemy is us, or even our loved one. We put so much pressure on ourselves to get it right, to handle so much, to be the perfect parent or perfect partner, give the right response to difficult circumstances. To surrender is not to give up, it is merely to cease resistance. Ceasing resistance to an enemy of chronic illness like Crohns AND the ensuing losses that have sprung from this chronic illness and move across state, has been an all-out battle for me personally. The anticipation of what will be robbed next is very real and cannot be overstated, even as I am experiencing some of the best changes in my life. I think living in a reactionary state of loss after loss and surviving only to live to fight another day has numbed both of us fromexperiencing real joy; and has very nearly undone us in many ways. Now that I am breathing steady; I know I need to heal but it almost feels like there is so much to unravel, so many bad habits built in that need to be broken, and so many new attitudes that need refining and healing. The thing we do know how to do is push forward; and so, pushing forward we will do. It is these tiny little acts of daily life and creating a new future that I hope healing and hope will come.

In that vein we would like to share some news with all our supporters and followers of Mountain Haven. Kevin and I have purchased a small cabin on Loon Lake up the gunflint trail and are in the process of building an a-frame north shore home up in Grand Marais overlooking Lake Superior. The intention for us in obtaining these two properties is not only to diversify our own investments but also to use these places as places of hope, healing and rest for those tired in ministry, those fatigued with chronic illness or caregiving, or those special people in life that may be separated, on the brink of divorce, struggling to right themselves and needing hope and refreshment. Our little cabin sleeps six very comfortably and has a small kitchen, bathroom and living area. It is in the boundary waters canoe wilderness and we have a canoe and fire pit and gorgeous swimming area. It is ready for guests immediately. The a-frame in Grand Marais is located on 5 acres of heavily wooded land and will be built on an overlook site facing gorgeous Lake Superior and five-mile rock. It will be a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home that can sleep 6-8 very comfortably. It will be ready for guests in September.

We are sharing this news because we are excited to give you an opportunity to participate. We want to donate four weeks a year (between the two places), to individuals, couples, and families that need this time for healing and restoration. Kevin and I will donate the location and our space, but we need your help in raising funds for Mountain Haven to be able to sponsor the individuals or families for the expenses related to these trips. We want to be able to provide all expense paid trips for these individuals, couples, and families including their travel, food, entertainment and any other expenses. Imagine being able to send a family, couple or an individual to a beautiful, fully furnished, sequestered place for rest and retreat and hope with no expense to them? After the last three years we have had of surgery after surgery, we realize now more than ever how necessary healing time is for people and we can provide many others with this much needed rest and time of refreshing.

If you partner with us by making a tax-deductible donation to Mountain Haven this year, we can be on our way to providing donated time for people in need of hope. For a family of four to be provided an opportunity to stay in one of these beautiful places would be a gift. For their food, entertainment and travel for a weekend or even a week would be between 500-2000$ depending on where they are traveling from. The full location cost will be covered by Kevin and me. All we need is to raise some extra funds to sponsor these families for the rest of the expenses, and then get some referrals.

This is where your participation comes in. Please, first, if you feel led support Mountain Haven today with a tax deductible check or gift on our website   We are on our way to finding new ways to continue our vision to Impart Hope to people all over the world and have found a new way to do continue doing this even with the trials of the last three years. We have a new way to live out this vision that is a part of our lifeblood and our nonprofit calling. Second, email or message us with names and contact information of people you think would benefit from a gift like this. Or put them int ouch with us for scheduling. We would love to raise between $5,000 and $20,000 by the end of the year 2022 and with your help we will be on our way.

Our mailing address is 1515 N9th Avenue East Duluth, MN 55805 if you prefer to mail a tax-deductible donation. Thank you in advance for your patience with us and your support as we have re-visioned and surrendered our old vehicles of service and refigured a new way to actively impart hope to people all over the world through Mountain Haven.
